Our commitment to Equality & Diversity

As a Housing Association we provide services to a wide range of people including some of the most disadvantaged sections of the community.   We must therefore make sure that our services are accessible and suitable for all.

It is also essential that we promote and celebrate the positive affect that diversity has in the workplace and within the community.  We want to ensure everyone’s views are taken into account and that the environment in which we work and live is truly inclusive.

We define equality and diversity as:

  • Respecting that everyone is individual
  • Responding to individual needs
  • Celebrating differences and recognising that diverse views and beliefs make a positive contribution to our workplace and community
  • Providing opportunities and an environment where people have choice and independence
  • Removing barriers
  • Making sure everyone is included

We have a Single Equality Scheme which sets out our commitments to Equality and Diversity.  Written with the involvement of customers, staff and board members, its aim is to make sure everyone’s treated the same regardless of their culture, religion, education or background, or whether they have a disability.

We all have a responsibility to live up to the principles in the Scheme.  You should treat others with respect, including your neighbours, and Calico board members, staff and contractors.  We’ll take action against anyone who knowingly acts against these principles, and in serious cases we will evict people from their homes.

Calico’s Equality & Diversity group meets regularly and decides on improvements needed at Calico and in the community.  If you’re interested in joining the group, want to find out more about our policies, just call us FREE on 0800 169 2407.
